Neck Injury Lawyer

The neck is especially prone to injury because of the relatively great weight of the head as it is thrust around during an accident. In addition, neck injuries can have catastrophic consequences for the human body, including spasms, headache, dizziness, numbness or pain in extremities, vision problems, ringing in the ears, and even paralysis. There are various kinds of neck injuries, including:

• Spasm
• Stinger
• Whiplash
• Fracture

Spasms result from a lack of stretching and exercise, such as sitting in front of a computer all day. Stingers occur when the neck is suddenly and forcefully tilted to the side (as in contact sports), when the spinal bones pinch, crush, and stretch the nerves. Stingers feature “lightning” style pain traveling down extremities. Spasms and stingers are generally mild injuries that heal themselves over time. Workers’ compensation and health insurance will usually be adequate to pay for these injuries, although a neck injury lawyer should be consulted in serious or continuous cases.

Whiplash occurs when the head is suddenly forced backward and forward (as in a rear-end collision), which is thought to tear a ligament in the spine. Recovery is slower than with stingers; whiplash can result in a permanent disability from restricted movement and constant pain. Although car insurance may cover some of the medical bills, it will not cover the lost wages and pain and suffering that a neck injury lawyer can recover.

A neck fracture is a break in the neck vertebrae, leading to paralysis and even death. Neck fractures can result from an assault and battery, a car collision, a fall from a horse, a sudden blow to the head on a construction site, diving in shallow water, and more. In most of these cases, there is a party at fault who did not use due care and caution.

Neck fracture rehabilitation is likely to last years. The injured party will have to cope with a drastic change in lifestyle, including loss of a job, alienation of family members, depression, and more. Workers’ compensation and health and car insurance won’t be able to cover all of the loss. A neck injury lawyer can get the injured party the full and fair compensation that the judicial system provides, including medical bills, lost wages, pain and suffering, punitive damages, loss of affection and consortium, and job retraining.
